Privacy policy
Effective October 4, 2026
The Tax List is an independent directory operated by AM Tax Inc. This policy describes information handled through thetaxlist.com and how you can contact us about it.
Information you provide
When you use the site, you may provide a name, email address, password, company or practice details, professional credentials, services, languages, contact information, profile photo, appointment or website link, review, contact message, and supporting documents submitted for credential review. We use account and profile information to create and manage listings, authenticate accounts, respond to requests, moderate reviews, review credentials, and operate the service.
Published profiles are public. A tax professional chooses whether to publish and which profile details and contact channels to display. Reviews approved for publication may be visible on a professional’s profile. Do not submit Social Security numbers, tax returns, financial account details, or other unrelated sensitive records through profile, review, or contact forms.
Credential documents
Documents submitted for credential review are stored encrypted in the application database and are available to authorized administrators for review. A verification decision concerns the credential reviewed; it is not an endorsement by the IRS or a guarantee of services. We retain documents while needed to administer the review, protect the service, and meet legal or recordkeeping needs, and may remove them when no longer needed.
Payments
Stripe processes subscription checkout and payment-card details. The Tax List receives and stores billing identifiers and subscription status needed to provide credential review features and keep subscription access current. We do not receive or store your complete payment-card number through the site.
Cookies and similar storage
The site uses a necessary, HttpOnly session cookie to keep a signed-in account secure. It also stores your privacy choice in your browser. If you allow optional analytics, Google Analytics 4 helps us measure visits and page use and may use cookies or similar technologies to collect browser, device, and interaction information. Google processes this information under its own privacy practices. The site's own activity report also records searches, profile views, and contact-link clicks using a random session identifier and the relevant profile identifier; that report does not record search terms, names, email addresses, or IP addresses. Optional analytics are off unless you choose to allow them. You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie choices” in the footer. Your browser and hosting provider may keep technical connection or security logs.
Choosing “Essential only” disables optional analytics without disabling sign-in, account security, or other essential site functions.
How information is shared
We use service providers to host the website and database, deliver email, process payments, and support the functions you request. These providers process information for those purposes under their own terms. If an administrator uses the article-writing feature, the submitted prompt may be sent to OpenAI to generate draft text or an image. Public profile and approved review information is visible to site visitors as described above. We do not use advertising pixels or sell personal information for targeted advertising.
Security and retention
We use safeguards designed to protect account information, including password hashing, secure session cookies over HTTPS, access controls, and encryption for credential evidence. No online service can promise absolute security. We keep information for as long as needed to operate accounts and listings, complete credential reviews, handle payments and disputes, meet legal obligations, and enforce our terms. Retention periods depend on the type of record and the reason it is held.
Your choices and requests
You can update profile details and privacy settings through your account and request access to, correction of, or deletion of information by contacting us. We will review and respond to requests as required by applicable law. Some records may need to be retained for security, legal, payment, or dispute-resolution purposes. California residents may have additional rights under California privacy law when that law applies to the business and information involved. Those rights can include requests to know, correct, or delete personal information and to opt out of sale or sharing where applicable. The Tax List does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To make a request, use our contact form or email support@thetaxlist.com. We may ask for information needed to verify a request before acting on it.
Children
The directory is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information so we can review it.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our practices or legal requirements change. The current version and effective date will be posted here. Questions can be sent through the contact page.
